I've read two fiction books by Khaled Hosseini and it gave my imagination a picture of Afghanistan. But these pictures are way better than my imagination. They're so great!

It is beautiful country. It's a pity Afghanistan has been the scene of so much bloodshed. It has the misfortune of being in the wrong spot. It was for a centuries part of the Silk Road to the Far East, that everyone wanted to control.

I recently read in newspapers from the 19th century about the War in Afghanistan then. Britain wanted it as a buffer between it's Indian colony and it's enemy Russia.

In the 20th century Russia wanted it because it was on it's border. In the 21st America wanted it because it's wild inaccessible back-country was the perfect hideout for foreign terrorists.

And innocent Afghan people are always caught in the crossfires of these constant power-plays. Yet they endure. They are like the vibrant flowers that bloom in the desert, despite the harsh conditions that would wilt most.
